Question 1

What is OwnTheDay?

Accepted Answer

OwnTheDay is a marketplace for calendar dates. Every date can be owned, dedicated, gifted, and traded. You can claim a day that matters to you, write a dedication on it, and keep it for good, gift it, or sell it to someone else. Each date has one owner at a time.

Question 2

Do I actually own the calendar date?

Accepted Answer

You own the day on OwnTheDay, permanently. In legal terms what you hold is a platform licence to be shown as its holder and to add a dedication to it here. It doesn't transfer any real-world or intellectual-property rights in the date, and it only exists on our platform.

Question 3

Someone already owns the date I want — can I still have it?

Accepted Answer

Each date has one owner at a time. If the day is already owned, you can send its owner an offer. If they accept and payment completes, the day becomes yours.

Question 4

How much does a day cost?

Accepted Answer

A past day is $20; today and any day in the future is $30 (prices in US dollars). Unowned days have a flat price — the exact amount you'll pay is always shown before you confirm.

Question 5

How long do I own a day?

Accepted Answer

Forever. When you buy a day, it's yours to keep — there's no time limit, no expiry, and nothing to renew. It stays with you until you decide to gift it or sell it to someone else.

Question 6

How do I get a day?

Accepted Answer

Open the day and buy it. Unowned dates from the past right up to six months ahead can be claimed directly — open the day, write your dedication, and pay. If someone already owns it, you can make them an offer.

Question 7

Can I give a day to someone?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in two ways. You can gift any day you already own, or buy a day as a gift from the start — pick an available date, write the dedication, and send it. Ownership transfers to them in full and the day becomes permanently theirs.

Question 8

Can I own a day anonymously?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can choose to stay anonymous on a per-day basis, so others see "Anonymous" instead of your name. Your real name isn't revealed.

Question 9

Is OwnTheDay legit?

Accepted Answer

Yes. OwnTheDay is a UK-based marketplace, live at owntheday.io. Stripe handles every payment, so we never see your card details, and every day you buy comes with a certificate and a permanent public record of your ownership. We're honest about what you're buying — a digital keepsake and a platform licence, not a legal claim over the calendar.

Question 10

Is it a subscription? Are there any ongoing costs?

Accepted Answer

No. You pay once and the day is yours for good — no subscription, no renewal, no ongoing cost of any kind. The only other charge you could ever meet is the platform fee if you one day sell your day to another user, and that comes out of the sale price, never out of your pocket up front.

Question 11

How is this different from naming a star?

Accepted Answer

They're cousins — both symbolic gifts, and neither hands you official ownership of anything (star registries record names in their own catalogues, not the sky's; your day here is a keepsake and a licence, not the calendar itself). The difference is where the meaning comes from: a star is a point of light picked from a catalogue; a date already holds your story.
